On May 5, 2026, Jung Bang Kyun declares a new vision: "A Korea Without Boilers, A New Era of Energy." ZERO BOILER KOREA is an initiative to transform conventional boiler-based heating systems in homes, accommodation facilities, bathhouses, hot springs, water parks, apartment buildings, and industrial facilities throughout South Korea into integrated energy systems based on waste heat recovery, heat pumps, solar power generation, and energy storage systems (ESS). Until now, we have relied on boilers and electric heaters for space heating and hot water production, while installing separate cooling equipment for air conditioning. However, many usable energy sources exist around us, including wastewater heat, condenser heat generated during cooling, groundwater, hot spring water, and ambient air. It is time to move beyond wasting heat and producing it again. We must first recover and utilize the heat that is already available.
1. FIVE CORE PRINCIPLES OF ZERO BOILER KOREA First, Recover Waste Heat Before Producing New Heat We prioritize the recovery of reusable heat from wastewater, cooling systems, and other available sources to minimize energy losses. Second, Use Heat Pumps Only to Supply the Additional Heat Required Energy demands that cannot be met through recovered heat are supplied by high-efficiency heat pumps. Third, Integrate Cooling, Heating, and Hot Water Production into One System We aim to combine traditionally separate energy systems into an integrated platform for efficient heat production, thermal storage, and energy distribution. Fourth, Expand Energy Independence Through Solar Power and ESS By generating electricity through solar photovoltaic systems and storing it in ESS, we aim to increase renewable energy utilization by households and businesses while contributing to the achievement of RE100 goals. Fifth, Eliminate Boilers Rather Than Retain Them as Backup Heat Sources Instead of maintaining conventional boilers as auxiliary heating equipment, we aim to establish boiler-free energy systems through heat recovery and heat pump technologies.
2. APPLICATION AREAS OF ZERO BOILER KOREA Residential Buildings Detached houses, apartment buildings, multi-family housing, and rural homes.
Accommodation Facilities Motels, hotels, guesthouses, and resorts.
Large Hot Water Facilities Bathhouses, saunas, hot springs, swimming pools, and water parks.
Industrial Facilities Factories, mold cooling systems, waste heat recovery, food processing, and industrial drying.
Public Facilities Welfare centers, sports facilities, hospitals, and various public buildings. Depending on the characteristics of each facility, ZERO BOILER aims to replace conventional boiler-based systems with integrated energy solutions incorporating wastewater heat recovery units, air source and water source heat pumps, intermediate-temperature water storage tanks, hot and chilled water thermal storage tanks, solar photovoltaic systems, and ESS.
3. A PROPOSAL FOR SOUTH KOREA'S ENERGY TRANSITION ZERO BOILER KOREA is more than a product development project or an energy-saving initiative. It is a proposal to fundamentally transform the way thermal energy is produced and used throughout South Korea.
Reducing Fossil Fuel Dependence Integrated heat pump technologies can contribute to reducing natural gas and other fossil fuel consumption, carbon emissions, and dependence on imported energy.
Proposal to National and Local Governments We propose demonstration projects and deployment programs for integrated boiler replacement energy systems in bathhouses, hot springs, water parks, accommodation facilities, residential buildings, and industrial facilities.
Proposal to Energy-Related Institutions We propose expanding existing equipment-based support criteria and establishing standardized design and performance verification frameworks for integrated heat pump systems combining waste heat recovery, thermal storage, cooling, heating, and hot water production.
Proposal to Manufacturers and Business Partners We invite manufacturers, installation companies, and sales partners in South Korea and around the world to participate in the ZERO BOILER Energy Platform, collaborate on technology development and application, and jointly develop the market for boiler replacement systems.
4. OUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE Homes Without Boilers Bathhouses and Hot Springs Without Boilers Motels and Hotels Without Boilers Apartment Buildings Without Boilers Factories and Industrial Facilities Without Boilers And Ultimately, A Korea Without Boilers ZERO BOILER KOREA aims to establish an integrated energy transition model that begins in South Korea and expands to countries around the world. Beyond technology development, we are committed to building an energy platform that brings together manufacturers, installation companies, sales partners, and energy consumers.
From a Korea Without Boilers to a World Without Boilers.
